meeka riot

During this weekend there was a funeral service for an aborignal elder, so naturally there were lots of aboriginals in town. On Saturday night only two cops were put on duty. There were hundreds of them in the main street when the riot broke out at the Meekatharra Hotel. The two cops were trying to control them, but sadly they have both been bashed and are in Perth. Shane is only new to town - he had his eye socket broken and his front teeth kicked in. Chris is such a lovely person - they had her on the floor stomping on her head. She now has a broken jaw and nose. It makes me so sad to think that she always does the right thing by these people and the bastards have turned around and done this. This is more bad publicity that the town doesn't need. It's a good little town and we lose out on teachers and other government workers who don't want to come here. But there was one local aborigine that jumped over the top of Chris trying to protect her. There is always hope and kindness in people.

So I'm gonna organise a couple of cards to be signed by school of the air and the district highschool to send over to the police station. I guess that's the least we can do.
